Creating an At-Home Gym: PowerBlock VS Bowflex

I'll be honest with you. I prefer going to the gym. But sometimes, it doesn't quite work out that way. A busy schedule, inclement weather, and many other things can make getting to the gym become an obstacle. Yesterday, I was quite disappointed that my gym was closed due to a storm that dumped snow on my area overnight. GRRR!!!

With all that said, I've been thinking about investing in some adjustable dumbbells and a pullup bar. This will allow me to stay on top of my strength training on days I can't make it to the gym. A pullup bar is a no-brainier. However, I'm torn between what dumbbells I should purchase, so I decided to do a side-by-side comparison between two popular ones:

PowerBlock Classic 50

 Bowflex
PriceApproximately $300
Approximately $300
Ease of UseWhen it's time to adjust the weights, the adjustable pins can be annoying and awkward to useBowflex uses a simple dial to adjust the weights. It's quick, and easy to use.
SizePower Blocks are smaller and more compact than Bowflex. (They are half the size of the Bowflex dumbbells.)These dumbbells are pretty big which is limiting on what kinds of exercises you can do with them.
Range of WeightsThe Power Block Classics go up to 50lbs per dumbbell, but you can easily purchase the next phase, which increases to 70, 90, and 130 lbs. per dumbbell!Bowflex only goes up to the weight that you purchase. You would have to buy another unit if you'd want to go heavier, which can be quite pricey.
ReliabilityThese are very sturdy. Can do pushups on them.Very sturdy and reliable.

Because I live in a tiny apartment, I am leaning more towards the Power Blocks, especially because I can easily purchase the next phase if I chose to do so. Plus, I've read much better reviews on the Power Blocks. Either way, I will let write another post (maybe even a video review) once I make my decision and start using them.

Hope this help!
